Even though abortion is considered a form of murder, before 1973, abortion impacted the United States in a negative way, however, after the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Case, abortion started to impact the United States in a more positive way.
Before 1973, women had another way to get an abortion. These types of illegal abortions are called "back-alley abortions". "Back-alley" abortions is exactly what it sounds like. Physicians would be involved in these procedures. Many women died because of these procedures whether it was from an infection to an incorrect procedure. As you can see in the graph above, the death rate was at its most in 1962, but it did drop quite a bit. The reason of this drop is because of a new antibiotic which was thought to make illegal abortions safer. Later, when Roe v. Wade came along, the rate had another decrease in deaths.
