Research Plan
Even though abortion is considered a form of murder, before 1972, abortion impacted the United States in a negative way, however, after the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case, abortion started to impact the United States in a positive way because women, now, have the right to decide what she wants to do with her body. My TPSP project is going to be focusing on the impacts of the Roe v. Wade case in the United States. I am interested in this topic because there are so many people that are going against abortion because they only know one specific “fact” about abortion that makes their opinion bias. To be honest, I used to be the same way. However, now that I have done some research, I have seen some very logical points on both sides, but I agree with the supporting side. I believe that there should be certain criteria that allow the abortion procedure to be done, not just because “I made a mistake”.
My research questions are: How has abortion changed after the Roe v. Wade case, what are the reasons people get abortions, why was the Roe v. Wade case so important, and what impact has the Roe v. Wade case made on women in the United States before and after the law was passed. My hypothesis is that there have been less maternal deaths. I also think that women get abortion because they may not have the financial support or they just made a “mistake”, which is a terrible excuse for having an abortion and should not be allowed an abortion. The Roe v. Wade case is important because it gave women the right to safe and legal abortions in the United States. Well, obviously, there have probably been less maternal deaths after the law was passed and more deaths before the law because of all of the “back-alley” abortions.
A lot of my sources are newspaper articles, graphs and charts, and special surveys that have been conducted. Most of my research has primary and secondary research. My research includes my interpretation of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Case, the opinions of others on this case. I am currently studying multiple graphs that show maternal deaths and abortion related deaths. All of my research will be connecting to the impact of the case that allowed women to abort. Specifically, I will look at what difference it made in the women’s lives in America. To make sure I’m organized, I will collect my all of my research in a folder that I have made. As I go through with my research, I am taking notes on a Microsoft Word document to keep and look at during the research phase.
To display my findings, I will create a website. This website will include lots of information of my opinions about abortions and the Roe v. Wade court case. I will try to make my project interesting and attractive. I will make my project look appealing by adding lots of abortion-related pictures and colors. I will try to find some facts that are not so common. I think by adding these “fast-facts”, I can make my website a little bit more interesting. My presentation methods for campus and district showcase are unknown at the time.
The impact of my research will be in the small communities around us. People will come to know the true facts about both sides of abortion, for and against. Then, the people will choose what side they would like to be on rather than choosing a side without facts and without knowing the other side’s arguments. I have two mains goals that I wish to achieve in this project: to have people understand information about abortion beyond their background knowledge and to have others know about the impact that abortion has on women. Abortion should not be allowed when a woman makes a mistake. There is more to abortion than that. I want people to understand that women sometimes don’t have a choice but to get an abortion.
